Home > Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Sudhakar's Profile
God called Samuel Sudhakar to serve Him on 2 April 1982. At a worship meeting led by Rev. Dr. John Joseph, the Word of God touched the heart of the young man who had just finished the final exam of his bachelor’s degree.
The Word of God was from Revelation 2:4, “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou has left thy first love.” The words changed the course of Samuel Sudhakar’s life. After the worship meeting, Rev. Dr. John Joseph called him aside and revealed his past, the present and the future. Young Samuel surrendered his life to God and said,
“Here am I …speak, Lord, for Thy servant heareth … send me (1 Samuel 3:4,10; Isaiah 6:8). All that Samuel Sudhakar had cherished till then, he gave up willingly — his dreams, his thoughts of his future, the educational qualifications he had acquired.
Kneeling down, he prayed to the Lord Jesus Christ, “The Cross before me and the world behind me. Let Thy perfect will be done in my life. Thy will is my pleasure, Lord.” In one of his sermons entitled “God’s Call”, Samuel Sudhakar described that most important moment in his life when he was called to serve the Lord Jesus Christ: “God’s love penetrated deep inside my heart and I had no option except to submit humbly at His holy feet. Amazing grace, how sweet a sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.” Speaking of the great transformation in his life, Samuel Sudhakar declared that he owed everything to the Lord Jesus Christ. He said, “If at all I am alive now, preaching the Word of God and standing before you, it is only because of God’s grace. The life that I live now does not belong to me but to Jesus Christ the Saviour who saved me from the miry clay of sin and from the clutches of Satan.”
As one looks back on Samuel Sudhakar’s early life, before he received the divine calling, it is clear that God had marked him for His own service from the time he was born on 9 May 1960 in a middle class family. Two instances of God’s grace and protection stand out. The first was when the little Samuel and his sister were suffering from dengue fever. The two year old Samuel was mercifully saved from death but his young sister died. In Standard 1 when he lost his way home, an angel of the Lord took the form of an unknown person and escorted the little boy home and restored him to his grieving parents.
He became a Sunday school teacher and also a youth leader in his church at Triplicane, Chennai, South India. He won many laurels for his church when he participated in Bible quizzes and singing competitions. In 1979, as a student in the first year at the prestigious Madras Christian College, Tambaram, he became one of the leaders of a newly founded prayer cell. This prayer group met regularly all the three years of his undergraduate life at college. However, soon after he graduated from Madras Christian College, he knew that he had been chosen by God for a special Purpose — to assist Rev. Dr. John Joseph in the great ministry “Christ For Every Soul.”
This vocation meant that he would longer live like other young men, enjoying the company of friends and family. God’s call to him meant that he had to give up everything for the Lord. In an early sermon Samuel Sudhakar said, “My very close friend who was everything to me became nothing when God’s call came and His anointing engulfed me.” His parents gladly gave their son to the Lord, just as in the Old Testament Hannah had offered her son Samuel to serve in the temple of God. Samuel Sudhakar left his parents and his home with only a set of clothes to follow his mentor and guide, Rev. Dr. John Joseph who had started a new ministry named “Christ For Every Soul”, inspired by the verse “Behold, all souls are mine” (Ezekiel 18:4). “Christ For Every Soul” is a faith ministry depending solely on God for its existence.
The first convention of the ministry was held on 2 July 1982 at the Nurses Association Hall in Chennai, South India. The young Samuel and his loving annan, Rev. Dr. John Joseph, fasted for three days in preparation for this great task of saving souls. Their spiritual spadework ensured the success of the convention. More conventions were organized and Rev. Dr. John Joseph and Samuel Sudhakar worked together in a spirit-filled ministry till 18 July 2007 when the Rev. Dr. John Joseph was called to rest by his loving Saviour.
During the period 1982 to 2007, Rev. Dr. John Joseph trained Samuel Sudhakar in several areas of the ministry. He held the finance portfolio of the ministry. He also assisted Dr. John Joseph in editing the ministry’s monthly magazine, “The Voice of Restoration.” Apart from this, Samuel Sudhakar worked as a secretary to Dr. John Joseph, keeping track of the preaching schedule, personal appointments and correspondence. From 1988, Dr. John Joseph gave his young assistant the responsibility of conducting Friday meetings and when Rev. Dr. John Joseph travelled abroad for meetings, the regular Tuesday meetings were to be led by Samuel Sudhakar.
Since Dr. John Joseph had earlier dedicated Samuel Sudhakar as a full time minister of God in 1982, the mantle of Elijah fell on Samuel Sudhakar when Rev. Dr. John Joseph was called to glory on 18 July 2007.
A month after Rev. Dr. John Joseph went to be with the Lord, the Rt. Rev. Dr. John George came down from USA and ordained Samuel Sudhakar as Reverend.
God has indeed chosen Rev. Dr. Samuel Sudhakar for ministry work. He has doctorates in evangelism and divinity and at present he is acquiring an MBA degree, specializing in Public Administration. The anointing grace and power of the Holy Spirit, the gift of preaching the Word of God with fervent zeal and the prophetic vision that had marked the ministry of Rev. Dr. John Joseph, his mentor, now passed on to Rev. Dr. Samuel Sudhakar from the very first Tuesday meeting after Dr. John Joseph passed away. the prophecies made by Dr. Samuel Sudhakar on 1 January 2008 and the revelations that the Lord revealed through Dr. Samuel Sudhakar were fulfilled by the end of the year.
The extensive spiritual training and the rich experience gained under the guidance of Rev. Dr. John Joseph have enabled Dr. Samuel Sudhakar to take up various aspects of ministry work. He edits a magazine titled “Call of Restoration” and he has written a book of daily devotional readings “My Daily Strength” published both in English and in the regional language, Tamil, which is in its second consecutive year of publication. Apart from being a trustee of “Christ For Every Soul”, he is a Chaplain’s warden and treasurer as well as a Presbyter of Christ Church. He is on the Board of Directors of the Madras Y.M.C.A. and is a Chairman of many activities of Y.M.C.A. His expertise has been a blessing to many not only in the state of Tamil Nadu but also in other parts of the world. Dr. Samuel Sudhakar has travelled widely to different parts of the United States of America, Malaysia, Australia, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
The prophetic utterance of Rev. Dr. John Joseph that the “Christ For Every Soul” ministry would take “a new turn” has been fulfilled. It has been realized in the fruitful apostolic and prophetic ministry of Dr. Samuel Sudhakar that has been blessed abundantly by God. Through God’s grace, new ministries like the Friday Bible Study and healing services, the monthly fasting prayers and the monthly night prayers have brought the message of salvation to countless people, Rev. Dr. Samuel Sudhakar has revived the spiritual T.V. programs in several channels, bringing hope and solace to millions.
Rev. Dr. Samuel Sudhakar wishes to fulfill the mission of his annan, Dr. John Joseph. He hopes to start a prayer center for people who feel burdened and desperate, a center where many people will find relief and healing. He also plans to train children from the age of ten to be soldiers for Jesus Christ. Another dream he has shared is his desire to establish a home for servants of God when they are old and feeble and have no one to care for them. He wishes to use the latest technology to spread the Word of God and save souls for Christ. His deep faith in the Lord’s power to transform human weakness and suffering into victory empowers him to work towards these several goals. He is confident that “God will take care of everything.”
One of his favourite prayers, mentioned in many of his messages, reveals his steadiness of purpose in the service of his Lord and Saviour: “Let nothing of this world, the lust of money or the pride of this world conquer me but I should only do God’s perfect will always.” Quoting from Acts 20:24, Dr. Samuel Sudhakar reaffirms his commitment to his Master as long as he lives: “But none of those things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”
